Always a great choice for a late night craving. Pastrami burger was delicious and fresh! Family fries we cooked perfectly and the bag had more fries then my wife, kids and myself could finish! Service was quick and staff were very friendly!
H&W Drive In is a cool local spot in Merced. This was not a drive thru fast food restaurant. But, more of a drive in (hence the name) or walk up place. Customers can either drive up to order and have the food delivered to their car. Or, can walk up to the window to place orders to eat at the tables outside or take to-go. The staff was nice. Orders came out quickly. We tried a few of their items - Tuna Sub, Bacon Cheeseburger, Patty Melt, Fries, and Onion Rings. Their fries are crinkle cut in case that matters to you. We enjoyed all of the food. They were all well made and tasty. And the portions seemed to be on the larger size. Prices were quite reasonable. We would go back again if ever in the area.
Got the French burger, which is a good value for $7. The roll was dry and the burger was rubbery, but overall it tastes good and hits the spot. The root beer is delicious. I can see why this place is so popular with the locals. Car hop service just means they'll bring the food to your car. There aren't many of these around anymore, but this isn't like American Graffiti. It looks a little run down, though the service is great. Just wouldn't go out of my way to go here again.

The food? Good. The people? Good. It's hard to really complain about this place really. Most of the 1 star reviews I see these days are often from people who are likely either lying or actually gave some mega complex order with so many ins and outs that of course the chefs are going to mess it up. There's a reason why this place is rated so high and it shows. Father used to bring me all the time, I brought a friend recently from out of state. He ordered a philly cheesesteak, plain, and he had 0 complaints about it. If you want simple food, if you want reliably priced food (with funny fast food places charging the same amount for slop), If you want to feel comfortable, this is it, this is the place; there's not many around here, so it's nice to have one. The only thing I can say that's negative is that when it's dinnertime, it does get busy, but that really isn't a negative so much as it is a showing that this place is popular and attracts alot of people, must like practically every other place. Best time to come is in the early afternoon; there's still some people sure, but at most, 2-3 people usually.

Located this gem based off other yelp's reviews, IT DIDN'T DISAPPOINT! A must if you want a classic burger, fires and cold coke. The Philly cheese steak was also ! Grabbed a shake for the road, another win! If you're in Merced, go here! FYI they don't have bottle water.

Best burgers in town. Usually a 10 to 15 minute wait. Staff is always friendly. Everything from burgers to sandwiches and the mozzarella cheese sticks are great!
